When @brooklynkolache first opened in 2012, I frequently walked there from my home a few blocks away in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. I favored the savory kolaches and was impressed that they sourced their chorizo from a store in the neighborhood. Sometimes I stayed for a couple of hours to read, to work or my dissertation, or to catch up with a friend. When I moved away and returned to visit after a couple of years, the owner simply said, “I haven’t seen you in a while.” I miss being a regular at a local cafe, but I know social distancing is best for me and for others.
